Reunion Dinner
Went to Hotel Excelsior for the reunion dinner at this place called The Palace Restaurant (if I'm not mistaken)...it was boring I guess...? XD The food was alright...we had Yee Sang (Raw Fish Salad), Shark Fin's Soup, Roasted Kampung Chicken, Steamed Pomfret, Fried Prawns in Soy Sauce, some sort of mushroom dish, some sort of rice dish with waxed sausage and waxed duck (that's what it says on the paper thing) which I've always hated, a platter of Chinese pastry and the dessert, which had sea coconut and longans in it.

Here are the pics!!!

Yee Sang...lol I was busy trying to snap a good pic I didn't get to mix it...

Shark Fin's Soup...I doubt it's 100% authentic...my uncle brought wine and put some in the shark fin's soup...yummy!

Roasted Kampung Chicken...Audrey, this pic may be too traumatic, so I guess you should look away.. XD

Prawns...my favorite!

lol the "God of Prosperity" with my aunt haha...he gave out angpows containing papers with lucky numbers on them

That's my grandmother ^_^

I saw Kobuta (Li Shen) walk into the restaurant with her family earlier...and I texted her saying 'I see you!' and she claimed I was following her or something lol Took a pic with her before she left...she asked her brother to snap a pic of us and her brother just snapped it in an instant! No '1, 2, 3...' and all that lol and the pic turned out to be horrible...I looked astonished and she wasn't looking at the camera XD Haha we had to take it ourselves as her family left the restaurant already lol as usual, she couldn't stop laughing...haha here's a somewhat decent shot...I still think I look weird...I was the photographer XD people

Fried Hard Disk
My laptop's hard disk is officially fried. It'll take a month (at least) after I send it to the factory this coming Friday. It doesn't help that it's almost Chinese New Year either. I'll be laptop-less when I get back to uni. I have no other form of entertainment. T.T Except my mp3 player that is...all my movies and tv shows are gone. Poof! T.T This sucks.

No idea what caused the fried hard disk drive, but the person at the shop said it was a virus?? O__O

Other possible causes:

Defective hard disk drive (Of all people, WHY ME?? What did I do to deserve this???)
Long hours of use

I'm stuck with my desktop now...it ain't bad...except that its pace is equivalent to a snail. Gets stuck a whole lot. And it doesn't have Windows SP 2 installed on it...and I can't download the latest version of iTunes or Windows Live Messenger. *will attempt to download episodes of Gossip Girl and Grey's Anatomy nonetheless* I hope the computer won't go KABOOM!

I probably won't be updating as much after next week cos I'm laptopless...will try to update as much as the situation will allow.

Oh, and HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR people...will update later with photos and stuff...

Note to Amy: You cannot compare Malaysian unis with Singapore unis. =_=" Everyone knows how this country is going backwards. Meh...all that money the government wastes on useless stuff should've been used to upgrade our local unis...cos we live in such deplorable conditions *sob sob* And that attempted ban on Rihanna's concert is just ridiculous. Thank goodness they didn't try to ban Jason Mraz. Or Amy would literally be jumping on a bus to Singapore. How's it intentionally crippling the economy? No one forced anyone to go watch her concert! If you don't have the money, then don't go!! Aiyoor...

Hazardous Chocolate

Dang it. My throat feels like a desert. My friend gave me this packet of chocolates from Famous Amos last week, and I couldn’t stop munching on them during the weekend… >.< They had filling in the centre, too! Gosh…strawberry, hazelnut, chocolate (white chocolate ones). How can one resist that kind of chocolate? I need more snacks in my room…junk…SUNFLOWER SEEDS! I want more chocolate!

Audrey’s Newspaper Debut

Okay, so this is Audrey’s Chickaaaahn newspaper debut…okay well not really, this is her proper debut lol the last time she appeared in the papers, she was dressed up as Quasima a gypsy for SMI’s annual play, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She organized a blood donation drive in Ipoh last week along with her entourage of UM students. Great job on the blood donation drive! ^_^ So Audrey, here’s free publicity! lol and congrats on your newspaper debut!

Here’s the newspaper clipping:

Birthday Post

Thanks for the birthday wishes people! ^_^ Amy, you’re crazy…I suggest you go get therapy or something lol

Went to Queensbay Mall with a friend on Thursday after class to have dinner…3 other people were supposed to come originally lol but Choy Fong’s always busy in the evenings these days, Seng Aik had class and my other friend forgot at the last minute lol So it was just me and Yeoh haha

We went to Kim Gary’s for dinner…love that place…I must try their cheese baked assorted mushrooms one of these days! Kah Meng’s little spore emitting friends…beware!! Muahahaha…here’s some pics from Thursday. No pics of me cos my fringe looks weird at the moment cos I was lazy and only wanted to take food pics.

 IMG_1089edit

Yeoh had some kind of fried rice…couldn’t remember the exact name though

IMG_1093

lol I had to make her look at the camera…she says she has no idea why but somehow Ipoh people love taking pictures of food haha

IMG_1088

Strawberry + Aloe Vera drink…I’m sure that’s not the exact name of the drink but it does contain strawberry bits and aloe vera bits at the bottom

IMG_1091edit

Looks delicious, no? I MUST try it next time I go there…didn’t order any drinks for myself or I won’t be able to finish the main course…

IMG_1094edit

Cheese baked rice with fish fillet with white sauce (I think it’s fish fillet…oh well, it’s definitely FISH something) Hmm…I dunno, but I think the cheese baked rice with signature twin sauce I had at the T-Bowl Concept Restaurant upstairs was better…the rice near the surface was slightly burnt/hard.

Yeoh made this lovely card for me ^_^ She’s talented in the arts and crafts department…she’s good at like, everything. It must’ve taken her hours to make this…oh, and that bit in the middle is glass!

Thanks to Shun Chin for the inspirational frame! (Is that what this is called?) It’s lovely…

IMG_1110

lol my friends kept telling me to squish this gift during class…I had no idea what it was that time…thank goodness I didn’t…or the class will be filled with sounds of Happy Birthday coming from Pooh’s belly…and not just once, but 3 rounds of the Happy Birthday song! lol Thanks Ida for the gift XD

Oh, and thanks to everyone for the wishes!!! ^_^

Randomness Part Deux

It’s been a pretty uneventful day…so here’s a short picture post…I thought I’d show y’all my room…yes, I live in very deplorable conditions in uni, with horrible Internet connection. As you can see, it’s very, VERY old. The floor’s not even tiled. I wear shoes inside. I don’t mop it, ever. It’ll just get dirty again anyway… See those dangling clothes? lol I dry the clothes inside, they dry pretty fast considering it’s indoors. Boring stuff, I know…

 IMG_1084edit

For something a little more interesting, here’s my roommate’s side of the room. I took this pic while she was gone…so…she has no idea.

IMG_1087edit

Ahem…notice that my side looks more organized…I don’t have clothes piled everywhere Btw…when my Internet’s better or something (I doubt it) or when I have better Internet access, I’ll make those pics clickable to bigger sized versions…

On a side note, I finally found that song, By the Boab Tree by Ophelia of the Spirits…it’s lovely!! Hehe I stole it directly from YouTube cos I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I have no idea how to add the song to my music player at the bottom, ‘cos they don’t have it in the database. And there’s another option, that is…add the song through a link. I tried uploading it to Mediafire and other places and using that direct link, but it won’t work…*sigh* For now, I’ve put it in a mini player here…

Randomness

Randomness…

My English teacher told us that in his mind, we Chemistry students are a bunch of science nerds who wear our goggles (usually worn in the lab) EVERYWHERE. LOL. He says we wear them 24/7 and that’s how we um, “court” other Chemistry people? That’s so weird…lol o_O I hate wearing goggles…I can’t even see clearly in them cos mine has so many scratches in them… The previous week, he asked if anyone of us here had the whole Periodic Table memorized haha

My place still has horrible Internet connection…it just won’t connect… T.T It connected for like a few minutes, or rather, seconds yesterday, and then it wouldn’t work. *bangs head on desk*

I’m hungry again…I need foooooooood…I’m craving for:

Twister fries and a prosperity burger from McD (I think that’s what they’re called?)
A Subway sandwich
Tom Yum noodles
Really, really good bread…
Sunflower seeds
Barbecued meat

New Year’s Odds and Ends

New Year’s Resolutions (Better late than never…)

1. Get some sleep (I always seem to stay up later than I should…not good…I need those blindfold-like things they use on airplanes)
2. Get on the Dean’s List
3. Read more books (I hardly have time to read anymore…*sigh* that’s sad. A book takes me ages to finish right now…)
4. Spend less time online (I hope?)
5. Less procrastination (I’m good at procrastinating apparently…I’m lazy…)

Ah well…lets hope I get to fulfill at least 1/2 of those resolutions

I went to watch Australia the other day…it stars Nicole Kidman & Hugh Jackman. Here’s the movie poster:

  australiamoviedotnet_poster7

The movie’s directed by Baz Luhrmann who directed Moulin Rouge a couple of years back. Ooh, I read that he’ll be directing the movie adaptation for the musical, Wicked and also The Great Gatsby. Can’t wait for Wicked! I haven’t seen Moulin Rouge yet…but Seng Aik said he preferred Moulin Rouge to Australia. The movie’s narrated by Nullah, a half-caste aboriginal boy. It’s about Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) who journeys to the land down under from England to make her husband sell the land called Faraway Downs. She also suspects him of having an affair there, too. Her husband sent a rough-hewn cattle drover, simply called ‘Drover’ (Hugh Jackman) to bring her to Faraway Downs where she discovers something else instead (I won’t say what). Not long after arriving at Faraway Downs, Nullah tells Lady Sarah that he’s seen her cattle driven to Carney land (King Carney owns most of the land in northern Australia, except Faraway Downs). Because of this, Fletcher, station manager for Faraway Downs mistreats Nullah and Lady Sarah dismisses him. Without a station manager, Lady Sarah persuades Drover to drive the cattle to Darwin to be sold and together with a few others, they drove the 1500 cattle across the unrelenting landscape. Along the way, she finds herself responsible and somewhat captivated by Nullah and falls in love with Drover too. Well, that’s the basic gist of the movie. I thought the movie was pretty good though it was long (almost 3 hours!). Kidman and Jackman have great chemistry on-screen…and I have to say, the cinematography is just amazing! The rugged landscape is so beautiful…it made me wanna jump on a plane to Australia. A really effective tourism campaign, I must say! I’ve been searching high and low for the song played during the end credits, but no luck so far…it’s called By the Boab Tree by Ophelia of the Spirits. I read that it MIGHT be nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars this February. If anyone’s managed to download it, kindly let me know. The soundtrack’s not released yet, except for an EP on iTunes, which I’m desperate to have.

Kah Meng, I’ll come to Australia to find you one day! You’d better provide lodging…and chocolates be a good hostess…

Pocketful of Holes
Holidays are damaging. To the wallet, at least...

Lets review the amount of damage done.

1. Starbucks' Dark Cherry Mocha Frappuccino (Grande) - RM8 (less painful than the original RM14 or so I think if they didn't have the buy 1 free 1 promotion. The drink was really delicious though...lots of chocolate chips at the bottom..)

2. Movie Ticket - RM10

3. Dinner - RM6.90 (for 6 fried wantons, but they were yummy) + RM15 (I applied for their lifetime membership card, since they had a 50% voucher for your birthday!)

Total Damage: RM39.90

Oh well, I took some pics of the lovely Chinese New Year decorations in Queensbay Mall...
